Haematology

Clinical Haematology (Hematology) is the branch of medicine concerned with the study of causes and diseases related to blood. It focuses on treating disorders affecting the production of blood and its components (blood cells, haemoglobin, blood proteins, bone marrow, platelets, blood vessels, spleen and the mechanism of coagulation). Some common disorders of the blood are different types of anaemia, clotting and bleeding disorders, haemoglobinopathies and blood cancers (leukaemia, lymphoma and multiple myeloma). The branch could be a window to simple anaemia or an underlying complex condition like a malignancy. From the varied ailments, some are easily treated, and others require prolonged intervention.
